The Club exists to enable members to further their flying aspirations safely in the company of other members and to provide a platform for members to socialise. If you want to get involved in Club activities, please introduce yourself to members at the field or at Club meetings as they will be pleased to meet you and discuss what the Club does, flying and upcoming events. Alternatively send an email from the Contact page of this website.
Communication with members and Club meetings
Club activities are communicated through the Club website, by email directly to all members and at the regular club meetings. This website contains much information about the club, its history, flying to the field, events diary and committee details. The Club also has a Facebook page with a link from the website which has posts on members’ activities. Members get together and discuss club issues at Club meetings. Communications also take place to arrange flying on the Club’s WhatsApp group. The Club group name is Otherton Flyouts only.
The rules for flying to and from the field are set out on this website which the instructors are happy to explain if required. Club flying can take place at anytime but is generally scheduled for the weekends. Club flyouts are either arranged in advance, as set out in the diary on the club website, or on an ad hoc basis via WhatsApp. There are often spare seats available on these flyouts so look for chatter towards the weekend when people arrange where they are going. To join group load WhatsApp on your phone and send an email or text to Nige Burton with your mobile number(Details under Contacts). Fly-outs can be to a local destination for lunch or coffee or for a weekend to other airfields for their open day. Club members often go farther afield to the coast and even the Continent.
Club social activities consist of the Club meetings which take place generally monthly, on the first Thursday of each month. At present, indoor meetings are held at the Haling Dean Centre in Penkridge starting at about 8:00 pm although many turn up early to meet socially. Meetings are also held at the field when appropriate and the club hosts some open days each year as noted in the club diary. Other events are the Christmas dinner, bonfire night, New Year meet and barbecues. These will be announced on the website and by email. Come along and meet other members of the club.
